Hi people. I'm new to the whole 4x4 scene so any help is much appreciated. I have good knowledge of cars so know the basics but this has really stumped me. Not sure if you can help. I've just bought a 95' Disco. Was driving it home Sunday and at about 60/70mph I hit a bump in the road. (nothing too severe) The whole truck the started to violently shake as if the front wheels didn't have bolts hold them on. Actually thought the wheels were coming off. I immediately slow down and stopped. Couldn't see anything wrong with it so go back in and it drove fine. It did this 5/6 times coming back from Tamworth. Every time I hit a bump the shakes came back, slowed to around 50mph and it stopped shaking so I carried on. I sometimes get a shake through the wheel when turning but no where near as bad, more of a wobble. Been told it could be steering box or track rod ends but not sure. Do you have any ideas what could be causing this. Also when I say violent, I mean it feels like its trying to shake to truck to pieces as fast as it can. Don't normally get scared in cars but this is really bad. Sorry for the long message lol Cheers Dave

Do a search for Death wobble ;) sounds drastic but from your experience you'll understand why it's called that

Then when you've done that pop along to the intro section and introduce yerself properly  :p :D :D :D

:welcome2:

Cheers guys. May just be me but I wouldn't class it as a wobble. Its hard to keep it on the road its shaking that much.

Dude, you've got death wobble. It's sort of like a right of passage with some Landys.

Now, cowboy up and start going through the front end. Check ball joints, bushes, steering box, swivel pin tension, wheel bearings, steering damper and shocks. Often it is the result of more than one of these things being out of kilter.

I did read the post and after reading all the (My dads bigger than yours) comments have came to the conclusion no one knows the real issue. I have taken notes of what to check (easiest, cheapest solutions) and will get it looked at, at the weekend and let you know how I get on. Thanks for all your help.

no one knows the real issue, because usually its a combination of more than one, a little play here and there's makes up for a big wobble.
ps,my dads prolly not bigger than yours, hes only 5'6

That's probably because there are lots of things it could possibly be
How helpful would it be to say oh it's definitely your swivel bearings when it might just be you have lost a wheel balance weight or just not done your wheel nuts up.

:tea:

Oh and my Dad is bigger than your dad :p :D :D :D

My Dad has passed and didn't weigh over 130 lbs. soaking wet, so I've got nothing there, but I am certain you've got the death wobble.

It's cause is the question, you stroppy noob.

:welcome:

I'm confused. Didn't think I was coming across as stroppy. Just don't understand all the conflict. I'm a member of the 106owners and you don't get any of that on their forum.

Landyzone isn't like other forums...

Thank you in anticipation,
Gerald.
