I am looking at buying a couple of parts for my 90 online. I see what I think is the right part and it says next to the part for eg... Defender 90 to vin EA345885

Can anyone explain briefly what that should be telling me?

My last 8 digits on my VIN are MA950196

I am sure it is quite simple... but I can't find any reference to explain it.

Many thanks (I am very new:))

The code is all in the first bit (the SALL etc) explained all over the place, I'm sure it's on here somewhere. The bit you quote is basically the serial number for the vehicle, so is the important bit. The letters are in alphabetical order so MA... comes after EA..., so in the example you quote it won't (shouldn't) fit yours. The first letter roughly corresponds with the registration letter for that year, but they didn't necessarily up date it every year.
Beware, if you (or a previous owner) have had any major bits changed, axles, engine etc swapped, ordering by Vin number may not work!
