Vin From/To and parts question

Hi all.

can someone explain about vin numbers and buying parts, because I don't get it!!!!
I've had the choice of a couple of parts on a few ocasions now, not knowing which i need been buying both and returning the one that doesn't fit. But lets be honest, that's a ball ache!

example
item1= vin from 1A000001
item2= vin to YA999999

That would probably help me with the right part the first time...... but I don't get it:mad:

Hi

The letter and numbers refer to last part of your chassis number
 
Not me neither!!

Not interested in finding a particular part,
Just don't understand the vin coding in relation to parts and on a few occasions I have options which could have been decided by vin breakdowns similar to my first post.

as said above if you look at your car vin number the last 8 digits are what you compare as in example ,sallnab67wa123456
 
Well they started with letters and worked their way through the alphabet year by year until they got to Y and then they started with numbers. The numbers began in the early 2000's so that those with a 1 are approximately 2001, those with a 2 are around 2002 and so on. There are a number of handy websites and apps that tell you more about your VIN number such as CalVIN Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands

Folk who have used the third button from the right on the bottom dark greenish bar who then somehow manage to select the 'Advanced Search' option and all the other gubbins, old shopping trolleys, tyres, dead dogs, fishing floats, minis, dubious sawn off shotguns and dead prozzies to find a similar question somebody else asked about a week since... :doh:

Well if it wasn't for people duplicating stuff and saying 'Do a search FFS' Landyzone would be tiny.

Yea I did search first, couldn't think of the best search terms "vin" "vin and parts" "freelander vin" got me nowhere.

Who buys freelanders?, hairdressers, homersexuals, + my wife----- I guess her plan is to get my out of the house permanently fixing it, Theres always something to fix, kick or wiggle.

Well, you can order the correct stuff now. It costs a bit, but an official part number book is probably one of the most useful Land Rover accessories I've bought, and that'll indicate the change points. You still don't always get stuff that actually fits, but at least you're getting the wrong component scientifically rather than just guessing.
