Vils new Disco 2

Shouldnt have sold mine (04 pursuit ) most reliable car i've ever had it had all the known issues fixed prior to me getting it

moved to peak district so was doing 90 miles a day and i found a small patch of welding needed doing to rear ns chassi by the spring that would have cost me about £80 to get patched so stupidly got rid of it

They are blooming brilliant cars. We had been considering selling it, but its just so good!

and fixable....

watts linkage pivot arrived today, so will replace that at the weekend.

As its got a leaking FPR, would this constitute an mot failure? or just an advisory? It dribbles a teeny weeny bit of diesel.

with the troubles i've had with this freelander ( electrical wise) i wish i had of kept it!

I think any fuel leak is a fail i had a dribbling fuel pipe on an old golf i had n that failed
but it does depend how observant the tester is and how well he knows landrover

Hmmmm had an interesting development today, i went to start the disco up so i could move it up up the drive to work on it. As soon as the ignition was turned to on, it started the starter motor by itself and it just stuck on. Turned off again as soon as i turned it off.

I think the rain might have got to it?

Any thoughts?

I was doing the watts linkage today, what a thoroughly pain in the arse job. Along with a bump stop bolt thats refusing to play ball and a anti roll bar link that similarly was being a swine.

Joyful.

Anyone any thoughts on this starting issue. I know most people suffer with them not starting, im suffering with it starting when I don't want it too!

Not sure, but have you got a relay that has stuck on?

Have a shufti at this, may help you if you have not looked at it yet.

If you pull the solenoid 12V lucar connector off of the starter motor does it stop it doing it?

If the disco ignition switch shares any DNA with a Defender one, that's where I'd start looking. Disconnect the starter wire and that should tell you if the fault is nearby.

god i hate electrical problems. I am useless at them. Ive squirted some oil in the ignition barrel (vain hope) and now its delaying before the starter motor kicks on, then delaying turning it off when i turn the key off (i.e it keeps turning for a few seconds still)

ignition barrel? any way or cleaning them up or is it a replacement job?

Sounds more like a loose contact drifting around inside the switch than dirt or corrosion. (Although it may be dirt or corrosion that loosened it) Go on, replace it, you know you want to pee about with bits of plastic (cold) that won't go back where they're supposed to.

Others have suggested something broadly similar.

I think its definitely the switch as you suggested.

With further "furious wiggling" and "repeated inserting!" its got better and better at NOT coming on without being told.

replacement only IIRC mate, i've seen same thing on mk 1 mondeos you could actually take the key out on those with it still running

Well choof me.. if the disco isn't totally fixed!

New air bags, anti roll bar drop links, watts linkage, abs sensor, abs shuttle valve rewire, lights etc have all meant its ready to go for an MOT. At last!

Took it for a spin down the drive and ye gods it drives soooooo much better.

Must say the traction control gets a bit irritating, its so keen to cut in at the slightest slip. Very annoying.

Mine were same got better when fitted new tyres, if it's noisy wants fluid changing in valve block which might improve sensitivity

Have you by any chance fitted any new hubs (apologies for not scrolling back though the posts!) - the reason I ask is that there appear to be 2 different sorts on the market, one with 55 reluctor teeth and one with 60, it's the latter which is the correct count. Having a mix of 55's and 60's can cause the TC to be overly twitchy.

Course it could've had all 55's on from someone elses previous work and you've introduced a correct 60...

Obviously it's next to impossible to know what's already fitted on a vehicle that's been bought used too.
