Vibration

Hi all,

Still got a terrible vibration coming just over 2200-2350. It goes away once the rev's go above or below that range. Only problem is with the TD5 auto 50-60mph is roughly bang on 2250rev's.

Reading through the forum it looks like the rubber coupling on the rear prop is favorite. But I've seen two listed on eBay, one at £14 odds and another at £35 complete with a small bearing & new bolts! Which one do I need for a 2001 TD5 auto?

Also still got a power steering pump leak, I'm going to try an additive to the fluid since it is such a slight leak. Will need to get a new pump eventually I know.

Ok, have just got back from doing 800kms in the last couple of days and with reference to the rubber doughnut changing, the vibrations on my car are definitely reduced, to the extent that I was cruising at 70-75mph for most of the time.

Just to recap my symptoms are, a slight slow speed vibration at exactly 50mph followed by a more pronounced vibration at 70 getting progreeively worse as speed increases.

As I said things have improved, but still not right so next thing is a full wheel balancing session to see if that helps.

As it seems to be speed related I'd first check tightness of wheelnuts! Change wheels round, see if it has an effect, then wheels balanced, check UJ's, prop nuts are tight and there! Could be wheel bearings too, or clutch even ..

Mine is an auto.

I've just changed the doughnut so I know the fixings are all good, the U/j's well greased etc.

I'll check the wheel nuts but as the tyre fitter said they would re-balance for free, that'll be where I'm going next !!

Well it gets tiresome being asked "....have you actually searched as there are loads of threads about this"....and that's correct, there are often loads of threads. But they nearly all fall flat on their face....its a waste of time.

I think the idea is to read the old threads and glean information from them rather than bringing them back to life again.
If no-one has posted on a thread for 12 years there's probably a good reason.

Hmmm....there seems to be a larger propensity for threads just ending with no further feedback in here than any other forum though......I'll check them out too and see if I can find an answer there - the Aussie one seems pretty up to speed.
