My 86 110 is really slow from cold and I mean slow, a fully loaded artic would leave me trailing on acceleration.
It's fitted with a 200tdi engine from a Disco and as the gearstick is where the middle seat would be I'm guessing that it has the Disco box as well, disc brakes all round as well, 3" lift on 35" tyres. It's better when up to temp but still quite slow, I know the tyres aren't doing it any favours but even allowing for them it's not good.
Anyone have any ideas, presumably the gearing is mainly to blame (speedo reads 50 at 60mph)

Not looking to break any speed records, just being able to get out of a junction safely esp when cold.
It's been like that since I've had it, Engine was reconned 20k ago starts first time every time and doesn't smoke, is the defender transfer box a straight swap ? hmmm best check what's fitted first ! is it easy to tell the difference on external looks ?

As above; tyres.

(speedo reads 50 at 60mph) Normally it's the otherway round, the speedo is about 10% more than the actual speed.

There should be an ID number on the side of the transfer box, this should be numbers and a letter at the end. Mine for example starts; 28.............F tells me it has a 28 tooth gear and the F is a later model fitted to discos. Apparently a disco transfer box fitted to a def allows better motorway cruising, which she does quite happily.

If it'll help, I got a defender transfer box off IanNotts .. I won't be needing it until March or so next year, so if you can use it and can collect it ....... ;)

If it's the engine , gearbox and transfer box out of a Disco then there must be a problem as it would have been ok in the Disco.
Must be the tyres then:)

Air filters clean, looks reasonably new. piping from airbox to turbo looks a bit shabby so i'll see if I can get hold of some locally and renew it. would it be worth changing the lift pump presuming they're cheap enough.
I'll see if I can find any id's on the Transfer box tomorrow.
Thanks all

Thanks for all the suggestions, going to try and get all the bits ready for the weekend.
As I said the air hose in the engine bay doesn't look that good, it's fed from a 'military' snorkel on the drivers wing round the back of the engine to a 200tdi airbox on the passenger side, I have a smaller raised intake on the passenger wing and I'm thinking of running the air feed from this and leave the other there to connect when needed.
