Vented brakes worth it or a waste?

Just a quick question whether vented disks on my Range Rover P38 DSE is worth it? I heard they could be a lot lighter which I would of thought any weight saving would be useful...

Thanks

Need to change callipers as well I think.

Why would you want to loose weight? wash the mud off or don't put so much fuel in, it has the same effect:)

Actually thought it was a bit of a strange comment about saving weight, but thought I'd run it by you guys. Found the original tip in this months LRO magazine, in the tuning section insert.

Cheers

Unless it was indeed the April 1st edition. Someone at LRO is talking jive. But then again that is not unusual.

thought the front discs were vented ? they are on my 4.6hse maybe doosel ones are not, or is the op confusing vented with drilled and grooved discs :behindsofa:

Front discs on diesel are vented. Drilled and grooved are a boy racer thing. They look really good on McDonalds car park i am told. :D:D:D

i put drilled grooved discs and performance pad on my last v8 p38 but only because at the time i did alot of caravan towing (1.8tonne caravan) and it didnt like to stop sharp as standered, the upgrade did make a differance but not much, defanatly not enough to justify the cost.
the best upgrade i found was to get the braking system on the caravan fixed

As many said here, the weight difference won't worth the money. I can understand that you may want better break and performance break kits (pad, disk and so on) will help you for that but does it really worth it on a P38? On a Track I saw first hand how OEM Brakes can quickly wet your pants and that you may want to jump on better ones... But again on a P38?

Want a lighter car? It will be cheaper for you to get ride of the spare tire and co that you have in the boot and prey for not needed them.

Now I assume that you may want a lighter car for a better fuel consumption, well of course it will help but first make sure you run good tires at the correct pressure, that everything that need to be attended for on your car engine bay and so on it fix, do not modify the aerodynamic of your car and re-learn how to drive by anticipating as much as possible to less use your break and be more kind on the right pedal. With all this in mind you will see a huge improvement on your MPG! Oh and stop driving in town too ;-).

Thanks for all your replies, especially SpacePig. General consensus seems to be that vented brakes are really not worth the extra money for a P38, and the weight saving is so little, there won't be any impact, so worth sticking with standard disks.

Thanks
