Vehicle road tax on Defenders

Just dropped a bollock on the lannie I'm buying.
It's a 2001 make and It's registered late march so I'll be hit by the max'd up poll tax on wheels law that labour introduced.

Can you claim back the tax as expenses on company tax returns?

Is it possible to change the vehicle to a Light goods vehicles (TC39)?
Thus avoiding the £450 odd road tax bill each year.

the old man has got a 2001 td5 and that is still at the £ 210 tax i dont think they have gone for puting the tax up yet but i might be wrong

I'd like to think so but the DVLA website says otherwise:

must have been lucky then cuse he paid it for last month and it was only £210

and davie is most likey ****ed on pimms so dont lissen to him

Just done some checking and it seems if the defender is a van it's classed as a light goods vehicle and not as a private then the price will be lower.

Here's the tax costs from April 2010;

Changes to Vehicle Tax from April 2010 : Directgov - Motoring

They have dropped the proposal to back date older vehicles (pre March 06) into the higher band that didn't exist when they were first registered.
