I've just looked up the details of a Series 3 109 I owned back in the late 'eighties & the DVLA site lists it as on Sorn with tax due in late 1991 & no MOT details on their system.
This fits with the circumstances in which I sold the vehicle following a write off, so the fact that the old girl is on SORN means it hasn't been scrapped? I was devastated when it was written off (rear end damage, probably repairable with a quarter chassis) I'd retrofitted a P5 engine in place of the original 2.6L & had plans for a respray.
Any ideas at all if it's possible to trace the vehicle ?
Thanks guys.

Sorn means it's probably "still around"

But i'm guessing it's either a pile of dust or in a million pieces i'ts probably sat somewhere, and been forgotten about.. :(

Waiting for a new VIN plate to be stamped and placed on another vehicle :(:D

Seriously all I know is you can maybe write to DVLA and ask to pass on you contact details.

Or the registration plate and logbook is still around, and waiting to be sold, was it anything special?

Thank you for your interest & yes it was out of the ordinary, to me anyway. It was a 12 seater first regd. in 1979 by the AA who used multi-seat 4x4's towing trailers to 'relay' disabled cars & their drivers/passengers prior to the days when beaver-tail trucks became the choice. Originally factory fitted with a 2.6 engine it had a Fairy OD & had been 'blown over' in red, but the interior was untouched in AA yellow. With help from friends I transplanted a P5 engine (with Westlake head) which transformed the car in terms of both power & torque, outside lane cruising on motorways was entirely possible & on one occasion I wound the car up to 90 before my bottle went
I was going to overhaul the steering (typical series wander) have the car properly resprayed in LR green & fit a stage-one hood/grill as the P5 gave equal torque plus a good deal more power the de-tuned V8. One day, when I was away from home, some clown drove into the back of the LR (parked at the roadside) & nearly killed himself in the process, damaging the back & splitting the fuel tank. The fire service dealt with the fuel spillage, the plod had the old girl towed to the pound,
& after some argument I got a realistic pay-out from the insurance & kept the car, but had neither the storage or funds to have it repaired.
