mastiff, just to confuse you a bit more, I have a 2000 Disco TD5 with 113K on the clock. Been using biodiesel, straight veg oil, and filtered used oil 50/50 with diesel for almost a year and I've had no problems whatsoever :)

my used oil is settled for a couple of months and the the clear top part is filtered through 20,10 & 5 micron filters.

the stuff at the bottom i make into biodiesel.

I use filters that look like socks, don't know english name, LIKE THIS EXAMPLE

remember these filters have to remain always in the oil, so when not in use just leave 2 cm of oil in the bottom of the can and drop the filter till is is 99% collapsed into oil

I use the same sort of filters but don't leave them in oil when not in use and have not had any probs with them, why do you do this?

that's something I've seen both in the "Petales" network and the "Oliomobile" site : there are waxes in the filtered part and these waxes dry between sessions, so the filter is clogged faster, keeping it in the oil prevents the waxes drying and the filter lasts much longer (they say it's a ratio of 1 to 10 in the filtered volume before the filter is blocked)

Fair enough, that makes sense but I just put mine through the washing machine when they get clogged up and they last ages.

the washing machine is supposed to progressively widen the filter size, so after several washing cycles they propose to "promote" the 1u to 5u and use a new 1u ... well, that's probably the same people who sell the filters :D
