Veggie Oil 93p

Greetings people, just been to Costco wholesalers and got 45lts of veggie oil to use in my disco 300tdi it works out at 93p per litre, currently running about 70 % oil 30% derv and not a problem in fact its running better now than ever and more responsive.

if you look on ebay people sell filtered wvo for around 60p a litre

Is that including or excluding the duty payable to Customs & Excise?

none to pay if you use under 2500l in any 12 month period,

use more and you pay duty on all of it.

Cheers mate might be worth a look on e-bay, ive only ever used new stuff you never know whats been cooked in the old stuff and has it been filtered right in the first place???

Hello all, i keep hearing about using vegi oil, used or new in our deisel landys.. what is the right way to do this mix. ie, do you just put it striaght into the fuel tank with your diesel ? and also does it or can it bugga your engine up ?

Used veggie oil is made acidic through using it as a cooking oil. You need to neutralise the acid by mixing caustic soda with methanol, and mixing it with the oil at 65 deg C for about an hour and a half. Let it settle for a day, drain the crap of the bottom, and water washing it............basically you need to make it into biodiesel. Untreated used veggie oil will eat away at the rubber components in your fuel system.

wvo is fine if filtered correctly, it will not degrade the "rubber" components any more then biodiesel will.

you should be able to run on about 50% wvo or svo as its thicker then diesel. with biodiesel you could run on 100%.

check out the veg forum in my sig to get the correct answers to your questions, we have guys that have been using it for years and have covered 100,000 miles on wvo.

i've been offered some wvo thats filtered to 1, 2 or 5 microns, is there a preferred one? Price is roughly the same for each.

I've just completed 1000 miles on wvo and svo shoved straight into the tank 25% doozel and no problems so far other than a fuel filter change at about 400 miles.

Infact its been slightly quieter, more poke when the turbo is going and a friend of mine just went through an mot with " amazingly good emmisions!" and he was running 50/50 wvo diesel at the time! if you are running more than 50% thats when it starts to smell like a chippy

Just do it, mine is a bog standard 93 200tdi no mods other than no cat.

oh and if anyone is interested tesco by me is doing 5L KTC veg oil @ 96p per L

Im sure the fuel filter only filters down to 10 micron but if you can get it filtered less than that then your onto a winner!

hey up mate, ive been using new vo for a while now proberly done a couple of thousand mile with no problems as yet, i started off 50% oil 50% derv straight into the tank, ive never used wvo cos that stuff does smell like chips cooking, if you run on bio you can run on 100% although i would still use a little derv just to be on the safe side, hope this helps and saves you a few quid.

storm most people say get it filtered down to 5 microns for land rovers and as for the bio diesel i run my landy and my vw golf on 100% bio and always have done with no problems at all except initially its a good idea to change the fuel filter because im told running the bio cleans the tank and pipes out so you should change it after a few hundred miles then it should be fine after that

I filter mine to one micron. I have three sock filters, 10, 5, 1. each stuffed into the other and just pour the oil in.

Veggie oil in Asda is four quid for three litres

One litre bottles on offer for one twenty each...its a rip off, I'm goin back to diesel

Tesco are one litre rapeseed oil for £1.19 each. Not cheap!

just make sure its cold filtered and de-watered.

asda now have 1litre bottles of vegetable oil and sunflower oil for 72p ....if you can hold of any....mine has done 1000miles now no problems just changed fuel filter after 600 miles and keep checking your pump for any leaks..
