ok, has anyone actually come up with the reason VCU lock up?
is it over use, under use, agressive use?

i know regarding the fluid inside, that it has to be spot on to work, i mean with in a few persent. to much and lock, to little and it doesnt lock etc.

so is there a way we can "look after them" with out going mondo?

also what actually seizes inside when they do fail?

just the luck er the draw ,no maintenance sum go on forever sum pop their cacks at 40k, when they start playin up just fit a new un , or go mondo fer a bit . . . .

i know its not really a do at home job, but can the fluid be replaced? it can they be over hauled after the''ve gone TU? or maybe even get
it done before they go?

mine gets a rite hammering when it is used, on 90,000miles now.

dont know wot the stuff is inside but think its the vanes inside that degrade so refilling int gonna sort it,thets why it pays to go to a reputable source fer a new un . . . .

I reckon its lack of use, i try and take mine off road to keep things moving underneath, always seems better for doing it probaly just physchological though.

its a very good system the vcu set up as it always gives a slightly less percentage to the rear wheels on tarmac [so with very few rpm it kicks in] and works in reverse as well ,when they fail [go tits up] its normally with no drive ,so in effect your in mondo mode , if on the rare occation it fails the other way [lets call it seized] then this can be a bastid as it can fook up yer rear drive train and yer middle bit as well , but you will notice a severe juddering as it locks up. . . .gulp im orft ta pub
