I have just taken my Valve Block out in eager anticipation of delivery of my refurb kit. In order to get the Valve Block out of the case I had to unscrew something that is white, has black plastic tips either end, cylinder shape and about one and a half inches long. On inspection this looks like some form of filter to me.

What is this

What is its function.

Can you clean it, if so with what

Does it last a life time or should it be replaced periodicly

Also I could be back on this forum tomorrow screaming for help getting my Valve block back together!!!!

It is the exhaust silencer. It is not servicable. Although you can blow it out with an airline.

How did you get along with the repairs?

This could take time, go make yourself a coffee and then take a seat.....

About 9 months ago My EAS was working fine sometimes slow but working. I started to read on this forum about weak pumps and the need to check the seal within the compressor. I decided to do this as my Rangie was 10 yrs old and the seal looked tired. Having done the job ( i thought correctly) after about 20 miles into a journey my compressor seized. I bought a new pump and all was honky dory.

Two months later my Rangie would not rise, took it to Local Specialist, they got it up but said I needed new airbags at the rear. This job was done. All Honky Dory.

About six weeks later, vehicle would not rise. Off to local specialists who had it for a few days, they could not find a leak but said my compressor was knackered that they had put a new one on.. Oh I said , it was only new about 2 months ago. Well they said, bring it back if there is another problem.

Well two months later, vehicle would not rise again so instead of taking it back to so called specialist I decided to tap the knowledge of this forum. Someone suggested reconditioning my valve block so I changed all the O Rings and Diagphram. Vehicle would not lift. I knew at this stage that my Compressor was not pumping sufficiently however I decided not to change it again because something was causing a new compressor to fail within two months.

I was not confident in my ability to have done the Valve Block correctly so I purchased a second hand one on Ebay for £50. The Valve Block went in but still vehicle did not rise. So... I changed the front airbags, bought valves to inflate the system. Once inflated I stood the vehicle for a day and no change in height so I knew I did not have a leak. I then pushed air into the Airtank and that took air and did not leak. So....no leaks I decided to buy another new compressor , cleared a fault that said 'no air supply' and up she went.

Now I suspect that there was something wrong with my Valve Block causing my Compressors to run continuously and knacker themselves out in a short time. So with a different Valve Block, New front Airbags and a new Compressor, the suspension is running perfectly and the pump cuts out when it should.

Sorry to bore you

and 'Many thanks to Wammers for all his help and patience'

Dave

not bored at all, that was pretty much my story too except fewer compressors plus also changed the front height sensors around. i know that's not supposed to make a difference (was it data who put up pics?) but seemed for some reason to work for me.

It will work for a while, who knows how long? But IMHO it aint worth the risk of being on the bump stops for £60 a side. When they are worn they need replacing. Thats why the EAS gets a bad reputation for failure, trying to cut corners on worn out parts.

i totally agree about the cutting corners. see it takes a few weeks sometimes for me to get spares organised so i do sometimes bodge just to get back on the road. i now have a set of new sensors but haven't fitted them as don't need to yet.
