I’ve found a S2 88” 1968 2.25 petrol that has been sitting for at least 3 years. Possible station wagon spec - it’s got rear windows and a safari roof and looks completely original from the outside.

I haven’t been able to inspect it. I’m considering knocking on the door and seeing if they want it gone.

Assuming that it’s a non runner, what is an approximate value?

Thanks

If its the Marine Blue one I'm thinking of its probably been there 10 or more years and I dont suppose things improve with age. The best thing you can say about it is it looks pretty unmolested and complete. I would say hundreds of pounds and a generous restoration budget. Of course things like the tropical roof seem to attract large sums of money these days, if you could secure it for sensible money then worst case scenario you could break it and recover your outlay.

If it's been sat in a field for a few years chances are the chassis will need work or replacement. Add to that why it was parked up in the first place and your repair bill is going up. A lot depends on your mechanical skills, if you can do most things yourself its not too bad, but paying for someone else to do it raises the restoration bill again, to the point where you're better off saving your money and buying one that's already sorted. But that's not the point of your question. As Beneagles said, offer scrap money at worst you can weigh it in or break for spares and make your money back

@Citizen Kane - yes marine blue so I think we are talking about the same beasty.

@suburban - love the idea of offering to do them a favour!!

Totally understand it’s potentially a money pit and nightmare in waiting. If it could be got for cheap and given a bit of tlc it could be fun. To be clear - it wouldn’t be my first vehicle nor my first Landy.

I’ll go and knock on the door and see what happens...

My landy is parked outside my house but it kind of looks like it was abandoned several years ago, a look I quite like. A few months ago, some bloke knocked on my door and asked if I wanted to get rid of it. I said no and he said he could maybe offer upto £500 if it started. I nearly head butted the cheeky plucker. Be careful how you approach the owner with a potential offer.

Fair point. Google streetview shows it hasn’t moved for 3 years at least so I don’t think there is any risk that it’s someones weekend fun - at least from a driving perspective!

My brother in law looks a bit tough round the edges at times, beardy and a little unkept. He was waiting for his wife outside an M&S department store when he was shoo'd on by the store security as there had been reports of a homeless chap bothering people. My brother in law has a PhD :D

Edit: That should be rough, not tough, bloody autocorrect!

If you can get him started you might get £500 offered for him.

Quick update: spoke to the owner today. Turns out he is just storing it for his brother...who left it on his lawn. 20 years ago!!!!!!
The householder wants it gone and has given me details for the brother.

A quick look at the beast. Can’t see underneath due to long grass and flat tires. Bulkhead edge and screen hinges are covered in moss and lichen so hard to tell.
Interior is there but in pieces. Passenger and middle seat floors are up and transmission and transfer case are present, which would suggest the engine is there too.

But after 20 years there’s gunna be a lot of stuck bearings, rust in the cylinders, gunk in the fuel tank...

So I’ll try and track down the brother and sound him out- starting with “I’m doing you a favour”!!

There's a blue lwb 3 that's been parked outside a house with a field in Bosham for as long as i can remember. I don't think it's moved at all in my memory. I thought about knocking on the door and seeing if there's any parts i could take. I'd love the roof rack but it's a lwb roof rack.
However the house looks like it's been empty for years too.

‘Fraid not. I wasn’t really invited to look at it, so my time spent to form the impressions above were about 60 seconds...
