Guys

I'd like an idea of what my 110 is worth. For those of us bored with the constant stream of similar threads on some of the Defender Facebook groups, I can confirm that my vehicle is 100% not for sale, however I have an option of an agreed value insurance policy which I am about to hopefully take up and I want to approach the insurance company with a sensible figure and I'd appreciate any feedback. And obviously it's an agreed insurance value, not the old (but true) "it's worth whatever someone wants to pay" as I'm not trying to sell it. The vehicle is a bit of a bitsa I guess and I don't know what effect that has on the value.

1986 ex RAF 110SW (am I right in saying the age makes it worth more to the export market?) RHD
Rot free, patch free chassis
OK bulkhead
Straight body panels
200Tdi Disco engine, done properly with Steve Parker inlet & exhaust systems
Ashcroft recon LT77 box
Disco 2 transfer box
Brand new Exmoor interior...vinyl in the back, heated leather in the front plus leather topped cubby box (not pictured)
Tyrex steering wheel, raptor dash, decent stereo, CB, extra gauges etc
5 x unmarked Boost alloys and new Cooper Discoverer STT Pro tyres
Southdown snorkel (not pictured) and a bit of chequerplate here and there
LED headlights (not pictured), Wipac spots and Defender A-bar
Full MOT etc and everything now works as it should
140k on the clock

Thanks in advance

The engine swap will mean it's not suitable for export to the US. I've just been through the valuation guessing game for my own insurance, we agreed £4500 for a 1985 90" on a galvanised chassis. I believe genuine station wagons are worth a bit more, but it can depend so much on condition - one man's immaculate is anothers roadworthy. Forget about the value of the add ons - the dash, interior etc, what would it cost to replace the base vehicle? - somewhere between £5k - £7.5K?

Yeah, that's kinda where I thought, but again there's a big variation there between £5k and £7.5k I guess. It's certainly not immaculate...but far better than roadworthy. Presentable is probably about right.

Interesting on the engine swap issue...I never knew that. Out of interest, if it had any old 2.5 n/a back in, does that qualify? Or must it be the original engine? (again, not that I'd ever do that!)

Have you had a look on ebay?
My 1993 tdi 90 has agreed value of 6k I wouldnt pay 6k for it though!

I have been told that if it has the original chassis, engine TYPE and bodywork, it will qualify. I've highlighted the engine type as it doesn't have to be exactly the same engine it left the factory with, just the same type of engine. I have been given a 200TDi in exchange for my 2.5NA for that very reason - a friend wants to export an early 90 to the US.

Value it at £8,000 and send pictures, the insurance company will look at it and adjust the value if they don't agree.
Hopefully you will be happy with the outcome but if not you can get an independent valuation and send that off to them.

I've just insured my 1996 300tdi 110 with Adrian Flux and I suggested £8k and they didn't query it. Wish I'd said £9k or £10k now :(

I am just doing this with my insurer at present (Admiral).

Just gotta fill out the form and supply 8 photos - 5 exterior, 2 interior and 1 of the engine.

They will then assess and get back to me.....I have been given a £157 reduction on my policy if it does indeed qualify as a classic vehicle which would be nice!

Thanks for the replies all. I'm going to send the paperwork and photos off for 8k and if they disagree they will advise me and reduce the premium accordingly. Fingers crossed!

£8k agreed...happy with that. Needless to say if the unthinkable happened I'd be absolutely gutted, however at least I could replace her with something comparable.
