Vague steering?

Driving a disco 2 td5 and the steering seems a little vague, also there is a slight vibration at slower speeds. Had a new steering box put in this time last year, checked to see that there are no leaks, only thing I have had done lately is new break discs and pads while I can't see how this would have an effect the vagueness did start of they were done?

Could be the stearing UJ from the wheel to the box,
Take it out turn it around 60* and tighten it back up ;-).

Checking TRACK ROD ENDS shake the bar with full force and see if it has play up and down.
Side to side is right (normal)

Check the 36mm nut holding the PAS arm is TIGHT!!

If that don't work it's how it should be!!!

Was over in England and was able to call in to rockingham landrover, who stuck it up on the ramp and Checked it for me. Turns out I had a broken spring and play in the ball joints on the passenger side. Replaced the spring myself but the ball joints are are beyond me as they need pressed out and news ones pressed in. Spoke to my local garage who said they can do it but they will neec to take the axel of, is this the norm are is there an easier way to do it?

Are you/they having a giraffe?

Get a large hammer and a large bar. Undo retaining nut under ball joint. Undo ball joint clamps, apply plenty of lube.

Place bar under track rod/drag link and rest on top of axle. Get a mate to lift it as hard as possible. You proceed to **** the swivel housing as hard as possible where the ball joint fits through the housing. Keep going til it pops out, takes around 30 seconds to 2 minutes per joint.

Once removed, unscrew ball from rod, screw in new one to same position (count number of turns/threads) and reassemble.

Very very simple.

hes bloody good this one :hysterically_laughi

Was told by rockingham landrover that they had to pressed out and new ones pressed in, not being a mechanic I have to bow to the knowledge of people who know what they ate talking about, was also told if not done properly it can **** up the axel. Reason why rge mechanic told me he needed to take the axel of was because of it being the only way to be able to use the press to get them out. Correct if I have read up wrong but is there a specialist tool for the job

I think we are not talking about track rod ends. I think we are talkIng about the ball joints in the hub knuckle.

In which case, I'm guessing that is axle off. You perhaps haven't described it well.

Take a pic and point to the offending joint so we can be sure!

grind off top of ball joint /then smash it out with hammer quick clean with sand paper lube up fit new ball joint to replace upper and lower takes 1 n half hours no need to remove axel

tbh not an easy job google discovery ball joint removal and u will find that you can make a removal tool for job if you know someone that can weld one up for you
