Good, I'm glad you said that.

Ok so now I want to check / set the timing. So far I've read that it should be set anything from 16 Deg BTDC to 6 Dec ATDC Also one book says 3 Deg BTDC & another says 6 Deg BTDC..... WTF?!?!

Remove vacuum advance pipe. Get engine upto temp. Set tickover to 800 RPM. Set timing to (I'm guessing) 6 Deg BTDC.

Many thanks

Dave

That depends on if it's an high compression engine or low compression engine. 3 degrees low 6 degrees high.

The workshop manual states for the 3.9, Non Catalyst: 4 degrees BTDC +/- 1 degree Dynamic at 800RPM, vacuum disconnected.

However, you are not running EFI so possibly best to do as previously suggested, advance until it starts to pink then back it off a tad.

Knock sensor circuit is now built and tested, I'll set the timing using that as soon as i've sorted another issue. If it works well and if anyone else wants to use it, as long as its looked after, don't have a problem loaning it out. I'll report back and let you know how I get on.
