Disco 1994 3.9 140K. Have just bought this as a weekend car to abuse and scare small animals and badgers 
on the lanes in our area as the 2.5TD wasn't loud enough. There is a knocking sound which at first sounds like the big ends but spookily is coming from the auto box. I suspect it is probably the mainshaft but do not have much experience of auto boxes. I have rebuilt gearboxes and engines before so have some technical expertise but unfortunatly don't have the time to undertake the prolonged tinkering that this may require to pin point.
Has anybody else had similar experience and if so what was the solution.
