V8i 3.9 auto wont start

hi all, my '96 wont start!
Worked fine yesterday morning & all afternoon, parked it & went to turn it on about an hour & half later & wont start.
Immobiliser doesnt seem to be the problem, engine turns over quick enought, checked spark ok, checked fuel system fuses ok????
Only thing that has been a bit dodgy ;ately is the fuel guage seems to go down about 1/4 tank rapidly - flase reading then rights itself. Definately at least 1/2 tank of fuel in it.

ANy ideas & also how do I check the fuel pump/where is it?

Not sur but i think the fuel pump is either inside the rear nearside(or offside) wheelarch or, it could be in fuel tank itself..With regards to the non starting it could be the fuel injection relay or auto choke playing up..Have,nt done much with the 3.9 V8 beasts..

so basically what youare saying is
1 you dont know where the fuel pump is
2 you dont know why it wont start

Just trying to help...Thought thats what a forum like this was all about...Obviously in your case, and a few others on here i was wrong eh??.

the problem with the 3.9 is that its electronically controlled, the good thing is that if you call out the aa/rac they will plug diagnostics in and tell you whats wrong

I'll chuck in my two pence worth.................

you say you have a spark but I reckon it's not strong enough, reason I say this is because I've had this problem before, It's caused by the "spider" or immobiliser unit.

Check the voltage to the + side of the coil when cranking, it should be 12volts, if its reading 9 or something like that then put a wire from the battery straight to the + side of the coil and try again, if it starts then the next place to look is the spider which is located on top of the heater box (the center of the dash needs to come out)

Take the immobiliser ecu out and take it to bits, you'll probably find a "dry" joint on the cicuit board, solder it up and try again, 9 out of 10 ecu's can be repaired this way, I've had a few that is a relay fault inside but its normally a bad solder joint, during use, the ecu does get quite hot and this is what cracks the solder joints.

You say you have fuel to the engine so i suspect a fuel sender fault, however, I would throw a couple of gallons in just to make sure, If you want to check the fuel pump, its located in the tank, you can get to it via an access pannel in the boot floor.
