hi, I'm looking for a disco v8 and quite like the newer (03,04) model with the newer headlights. I'm looking for a Es model with low miles and good nick, will have around 4K to play with as soon as my car sells. The trouble is, the older discos look pretty good too, but are they a different engine as some say 3.9 v8 whereas the new ones I'm looking at say 4 litre v8? Which is the better landy?

Both engines are 3.9s 3947cc to be exact. The so called 4.0 V8 is the newer vehicle therefore the engine management is fully electronic, the rest of the vehicle now has a lot of electronics which seem to be failing now due, to what ever according to the forums.
I would think you will need more than 4 grand to find a D2 with "low miles and good nick" that I would suspect it would be a one owner vehicle and possibly used only week ends If your lucky :)

Hi david
Earlier engines ran the gems 3.9 system , later models had the Thor 4.0l lump in I've had both my current one is the later I've got a 2001 manual with 75000 on the clock lpg and I've found this more responsive 2001 onwards I'd look for rear chassis is prone to the old tin worm so check it over good also check water level these must be keep up and use the oats antifreeze (pink stuff ) if it's low check where the throttle body is they tend to leak on the underside base plate here's a pic of mine not an hasn't got heated seat or leather but it's 7 seater on air

As discool said low miles and a minter you'd be looking 5k plus mines had 8 owners in 15 yrs bet that was because of it's running ng cost on petrol I've just replace the LPG front end kit and at 50p per litre it's a cheap to run

Cheers for replies, nice landy above. I did find a 2002, 56,000 mile one with 3 owners at £4995 but haven't sold my car yet so will have to keep looking. There are some other ones out there I like but have got lpg and I don't want that, plus they use the tanks and fill up where the 6th / 7th seat are, and I want use of all 7 seats

My LPG tank 80 litre , took the place of petrol tank I've a 30 litre petrol tank in the drivers side rear arch so I can still use 7 seats I couldn't afford to run mine without LPG
