Hi there everyone, I am Richard.
I have owned land rovers since I was a 20 year old student and drove one to Dubrovnik and back with a group of friends. I am now 68
Have never had any real problems until I purchased a 2004 4 Litre V8, with 8K on clock. Have replaced just about everything including the engine at 40K.
Having just had another very large bill for Majicor leads, 3 x Coil Packs (yes 3), plugs and various other items, which the "system" said it required to get the lights to go out on the dashboard, it went like I expected a V8 to go. Wonderful.
Saturday I decided to use it to uproot a tree, which I have done previously. Would not start at all, or turnover. Went and purchased a new battery, no difference.
Has anyone any ideas in addition to the following:
1. If I keep locking and unlocking the doors, eventually it will kick in and start. Actually did after something like 15 attempts. Ran it for a while, turned it off happy! Has refused to start since.
2. Tap the solenoid - cannot see it to tap - will this work? not a good idea
3. Get new solenoid, comes complete with starter?
4. Get current one repaired - where

Welcome. Your a Landy addict . Is it a defender or what? On point 1 it would suggest possibly there is a major short somewhere. It's very odd that the door locks are somehow related to the ignition. Suggest you take this to the a Range Rover part of the forum. Someone must have experience of this.

Welcome. You will get a better response posting in the relevant (discovery) section and always give as much information as possible otherwise people will hit the back button or start playing guessing games. Even the transmission type could be relevant to a v8 starting problem.
So my best guess is you have a disco2 v8 and rpi have been boosting their sales figures at your expense.
How did I do ;)

Many thanks for your post. Have taken your advice and posted detail on Discovery section, however forgot to mention it is an Auto, running on propane, but am sure it is not part of problem.
Am going to crawl under car and look for any loose wires, especially to starter, which I understand is accessable from inside oofside front wheel arch. Should be fun because there doews not appear to be any space in there for anything bulky.
Is there a section on the site which shows plans etc of car?
Thanks again

Sorry but I am very dim with technology, I clicked on the link and found a small icon, which looked like it was from Australia. Is this correct. I am always afraid to open this style of icon?

Pass. They are both links to d2 starting problem threads on this site (both td5 but hopefully relevant to alarm immobiliser issues). They work on my android tablet. Try a site search yourself or find member sierrafery and view his postings. Knows his stuff regarding your issues
