V8 performance camshaft - any experience?

Thought about it when I fitted a new one last year but decided on standard. As my old one was totally shot the engine now has all the power I need. What a difference. If you need more torque for towing? or more revs?? go for it. Real Steel are good advisers.
ps I fitted adjustable push rods on mine as I had the heads skimmed to the point that it was the only way to get correct clearance (pre-load).

Thanks for the rply.

To make it more complicated, I have the choice of a replacement engine (allegedly low mileage from a Japanese surplus RR) or to do the cam, lifters and timing chain).

Total cost of the engine would be less than GBP 1,000 (labour wonderfully cheap!). BUT - you don't really know what the engine is like until fired up ....

OEM cam is about GBP 50, the high torque one is GBP 250!

Maybe OEM is the way to go .... decisions decisions!

I had a fast road cam fitted in my old TVR (4.0 V8). Made the idle nice and lumpy and did increase performance a bit. Not sure it's what you'd want in a Range Rover though to be honest.

The cam I'm looking at is mild and just gives a torque boost. I do quite a bit of straight line cruising and thought the extra torque would be a bonus.

Whether it merits 5 times the cost of oem is debatable, especially as it would be going into an old engine ....

My engine is low compression, so I was thinking to get a bit more oomph out of it ........

TBH, not sure if logic and good sense is ruling here!
