V8 over heating

Hi im terry i have a 1993 V8 disco it is over heating i was told the head has gone and some else said the block is porous who is right. If it is the block wot can i do to fix it.

Hi and welcome

Some friendly advice - introduce yourself first, then do a search or the wolves will pounce.

The head gaskets may have gone. The head is porous so they are both right. Loads of info on here.

check the rad isnt cloged up with mud, alos there is water in it and its circulating.. ie the pump is working, also check the thermostat, if all that is fine then ide look towards engine problem

The block has cylinder liners one of which may have slipped, these can be replaced but it isn't cheap. As a last resort, if you don't think the expense is worth it you could look at Overheating Pressurising Cures. I am not recommending this as I have never used it, it's your choice.

However, you should do as Discomark says first. Check all the reasonably easy things, then move onto the engine itself. Overheating is caused by lots of things and the V8 can be particularily prone to it

Hi,
Had an overheating problem on a Disco1 some years ago. Don't asume the worst. As suggested check radiator, thermostat and water pump first. My radiator looked ok on first inspection (while it was still fitted) but once removed so I could see the core properly it was obviously U/S. New rad and 4 years later still no overheating.
