I am looking for an older defender 90. My budget might stretch to £4k but I have seen quite a few cheaper V8's for around £2-2500.

It will not be used every day except for very short journeys and I would guess will only do around 3,000 miles a year..

I have had a series 3 before and since then diesel range rovers, patrols and discoveries but I must admit I dont know much about the V8.. is it any good and do people think as I am doing so few miles and I have such a limited budget it might be worth it ?

Thanks

Well if its short journeys the v8 fuel consumption will be crap beyond belief.
Say 12 mpg 3k per annum roughly 1600 pounds in petrol
Tdi 25 mpg 3k per annum roughly 750 pounds in diesel
So less than 2 years down the line and the TDIs price difference will have paid for itself.
Of course if you can get a v8 with lpg then might be different but i think they have to be warm before switching from petrol to gas so maybe no better.
Or even cheaper buy the v8 and stick a TDI in it.

if it's a second car that won't get much use than V8 :)

You will be grateful when the weather is cold and the tdi is still warming up 30 mins later.

not to mention the noise

V8 all the way, if the filling up is too much of a problem stick an LPG kit in it, over half the price when running on petrol.

I have a V8 which i have just removed the LPG from, I'm doing similar mileage, its thirsty but the noise and power brings a smile to my face every time.

First Defender was a Tdi - wouldnt swap back thats for sure.

There is a simple law in life - more cylinders is better.

V8 feels good, sounds good, scares small children and furry animals when you put your put down....all good.

You know it makes sense...
