Just looking for some opinions here. I am looking at a late Disco-1 or maybe and early Disco-2. I am debating whether I should get the V8 petrol or switch to the diesel. I currenty have a 4.6 so I know what the gas consumption is like. It's a weekend vehicle only, so don't do that many miles, so the MPG isn't my main concern. I will definately be off-roading in it.

But can anyone tell how the TDI compares to the V8. Is the difference huge, minimal or the same? The V8 has got to be alot punchier.

Thanks
Jock

V8 sounds great and goes well, I had a V8 classic rangie and it was great off road. I have a 300tdi, but would love another V8!!!!

Yes, it's been done to death, but couldn't find anyone who'd actually DRIVEN both - but I have now! Seems to me that the V8 is everyone's preference, with it's downsides being gas consumption and electrobuggery. Think I need to test drive a TDI and find out for myself.

iv got a tdi my mates got the 3.9 v8 after driving it, it would be the one for me if it wasnt for the fuel compsumption power wise a steep hill we went up from stand still i had mine in low box so it wasnt a problem for me were as his wasnt a problem in high box.

Both engines have their problems, and ALL Disco 2's have lots of electrickery around them, so don't worry about that.

The bodywork on the Disco 2's is far better as far as corrosion goes, no rust at all on our 12-year old Disco 2 V8 boot floor.

A good, healthy V8 on LPG will give you the equivalent of 26-32 mpg, a good TG5 probably up to 35 mpg. Both dependent on how you drive.

Don't forget that the TD5 is nearly 45bhp down on the V8 as standard.
