Recently bought 2001 v8 Disco which sounds a bit tappety if you know what I mean. Mainly at low revs and under exceleration. I think this is a hydrualic system which I know nowt about but can anyone suggest what may be needed to cure this,is it a sign of low oil pressure (new pump?) new parts needed, or is it a sign of general engine wear.
122000 miles, doesn't use much oil, no smokey exhuast.
Suggestions welcome.

phil.

122k on the clock is probably one or a combination of the following. Slack timing chain, worn camshaft, worn tappets, worn rockers/rockershaft. You can replace the lot with "performance" parts (fast road Cam, hardened duplex chain, new tappets, rockers and rocker shaft) for under £300 if you do the work yourself.

Hi,

Sound a bit simple but...how old is the oil in the engine? Is it Black or clean?

Do you know when the last oil change was.

If you decide to change the oil I would advise you also ensure you use a cleaning agent inthe oilways. Ensure if you do that it is totally removed beforer filling with your new oil.

I use only Fully synthetic oil in my v8s and even after 12 months it still looks as clean as it was when I changed it. I Still renew oli/filters every 12 months(10k miles) as a minimum.
