After rebuilding my v8 I'm stuck with a few electrical issues.

I have wired up the coil/ballast to ground and ignition +12 volt and connected the ht lead to the center of the dizzy.

I have hooked up a timing strobe to one of the ht leads and cranked the engine for a bit but I don't get any flashes on the strobe. Have I missed something or does anyone have any suggestions?

I have also connected the condenser as the side of the dizzy casing back to the coil/ballast too

When I crank and measure the voltage on the coil/ballast input from the ignition live it drops from 12.9v with ignition on to 9.8v while cranking. Not sure if this is normal but it's definitely getting power

Thanks.

if your still on points are they opening and are you sure points not shorted down in distributor.

if your using amp is it wired correctly, is airgap giving pulse.

I think it's points but tbh I'm not sure how to tell. Googling both dizzy a look the same.

Mine has the blue cap, underneath the cap is terminals connecting to the ht. A rotor arm and a little black box on the side which I guess is the condensor.

I have left the ign on and tried to arc the master ht from coil to chassis but no spark...

No that is an ignition amp pm me a number and I will call you

Ok, had a quick look under the cap of the dissY below the rotary is a transparent plastic cover that says it's set in factory and requires no service. I guess this is electric.

Big thanks to Fanatic for the call. Really appreciate it.

Will update results of tests when complete

;) search lucas alternator plug on ebay less than £4 as it sounds like spaghetti marrelli lucas clone alt

Thanks. Sent you a pm with some pictures.

Tried to ark king ht to chassis while disconnecting ground off of the coil and got nothing. :-((

If you have Ignition feed to coil and pulling supply lead you get no spark= knackered coil

Personally I prefer epoxy filled over oil filled coils.

There's a spare in the back of the truck. Must be oil filled as it sounds like liquid inside. It got warm when I plugged it in though.

Is there a specific coil I should be looking for to buy? Or will awt do? FYI there is no resistor. Not sure if that's needed or not.

As far as I'm aware landrover didn't use ballast coils on v8 eletronic ignition systems.

Therefore you want 12v coil any non britpart, epoxy coil spec for rv8 is fine

Ok thanks. I have wired the coil as per the diagram but can't get a 12v reading on the coil with ignition on. The amp doesn't seem to be earthing?!

Don't earth one side of the coil! One terminal is from live (or ignition amp) the other side goes to the points.
