no, maybe just a little better than standard if one is available that doesnt rob the bottom end to gain 11hp at 5000rpm lol

its really more that I am worried about the quality of the standard ones even the ones in a LR bag may well come from the same place as the ****e ones and you cant tell till it starts tapping like a fooker and you have to take it all to bits again. Thats why I want to find either old leyland parts in there boxes (who would ever thought we would be saying that :p ) or get some of the newer stuff made in america.

those rhoads ones are noisy by design apparently so not sure about that now, just want some decent parts ffs  lol

don't try this in a V8

he means you dont need the rhoads type :D

if it helps your decision, the lifters in mine have done a thousand miles now (as has the rest! :D) and i they were from real steel i think!

the rhoads bleed-down are suitable for wild cams but other than that standard is the way.

progress engineering RC87 is the cam i would most like to fit to a 3.5, but tbh fett (almost) going back on everything that has been said between us, i now see that a land rover should really have a 4.6, they are just a bit too heavy for a 3.5 to make any decent progress!

thats not to say that mine isnt quite wonderful now, and that when it comes to second hand or not-tophat-linered blocks then 3.5 is the only safe option!! :D

so what im saying in a roundabout way is, try to get an RC87 but progress are a little off the radar so you might end up with a Real Steel or Eales cam, theyre all basically the same but i have heard the most favoritism towards the RC87.

cheers :)

which picture? :p

I know thats what poo meant but he was missing the point of what I said and why I was even looking at the rhoads ones.

what you say is right noisy, lets face it 8 liters of hemi would be even better but considering that I am going for a bit more power and maximum reliability within a budget and using (almost) readily available uk parts and a drop in fit to my landy it leaves me with the sd1 3.5 and like you say I am going for near 200hp with porting and a good cam new carbs and tubular headers.

I wont be starting work for at least a year so I an wait for the right bits and that why I am staring the hunt now. I want a motor that with 3k oil changes wont need stripping for another 200k miles and has a little more that the 8.25:1 power I have now :D

When you guys say standard lifters, where from? becuase here is so much ****e about how would I know if its ****part in a landy bag lol

buy your stuff from v8tuner or V8D

you should forget about getting stage3 heads, cam and new carbs and put in a 4.3 stroker kit.

Stroker crank is not a bad shout.

Especially if you're looking at new crank and pistons anyway, it might not be much more than standard bottom end and ported heads, similar horsepower I guess and lots more torque.

Estimate cost for stroker kit?

(I have a 3.5 sat in the corner waiting for a destiny but I wouldn't want to rebuild it standard, do ideally need more capacity because I NEED torque for the weight of my disco but avoiding big bore would also be nice)

last time I looked a stroker crank was crazy money, not just silly - crazy!!!!

I am not in to spending that kind of cash or needing that much power (I have my bmw for power and speed).

I will buy top notch bits for the rest of it though- so back to the real point where can I get real quality lifters and how can I tell them apart from ****e in LR bag? would you really trust it just because it came from either of those two places poo? what about real steel?

actually the 4.3 would be more suited to the range rover than a 3.5 with staged heads and cam since it would have more torque low-mid. what you plan to do with your engine is really only going to have effect over 3000rpm.

it would be more expensive probably. 86.36mm crank would be around 800 plus a rebore new pistons and conrods.

using the same stroke in a 3.9 would give 4.8L - give real steel or v8tuner a call.

A new cam is only about £150 and a set of rings and high quality followers and other valve gear and I will match port the heads my self before they get sent off to the machine shop for the rest. I hope to get it all done for the cost of a stroker crank lol

Yep, it does get into big big money when you start moving well away from standard.

Fett, I assume that v8 tuner/developments/real steel know what isn't **** and stock that stuff. They have a name to protect and that's why we in the know buy from them :)

Don't buy anything off eBay or random Internet sites.

The folks at v8 tuner were very helpful, I would buy again there. Although most of the stuff I got was all makes anyway!! :D
