probably been asked a hundred times but after a disastrous day changing the leads and rotor arm on my 98 3.9 disco i managed to pull the dizzy apart and dislodge all the weights and break the small plastic coller that stops the weights hitting the rotor ( is the plastic collar important ?)when i removed the rotor arm, yes i now know you should hold down the plate but its a bit late now, i have got another dizzy and fitted it can anyone one tell me where number 1 lead is on the cap in relation to the front clips or notch in the cap with the advance and retard pointing at about 5 o clock, i keep finding conflicting pictures with the a/r pointing at 11 oclock as well,

i have got the firing order and timing marks etc but cant suss out the cap position, i will go mad if it doesnt start soon

Thanks for the offer i have a stage 1 v8 with a 3.5 and the dizzy is in a different position with the vacuum pointing towards the engine at about 11 oclock, just come after a few hours of playing this morning and have managed to get it up and running again, i found that the dizzy needs to be at about 5 o clock number 1 lead 2 back (anticlockwise) from the cap clip roughly inline with vacuum, just off for a run and then strobe it in properly

no1 is normally the tower just to the right of the front clip, and the vac unit usually points in the general direction of the water pump top edge sorta thing.
