i was asked to look at a friends p platr v8 3.9 efi disco as it would cut out then not start, if you left it for a while it would go again. this has been happening for a while but every time i went to it it ran great until today. it wont start so i noticed the fuel pump was not running so put a tempory feed in tried to start it with no joy. after some investigation i found it has no spark. i think itt must be an ignition or imobiliser fault although the imobiliser light is coming on and off with the key fob and the ignition lights are on. any ideas?

Usually if the engine turns over but won't start, it is unlikely to be an immobiliser fault. I would start investigating the ignition. Personally, I start at the plugs, and work backwards towards the coil, but others check the coil first and finish by checking the plugs.

behind drivers kick panel is ecu with 2 relays one eith purple white wire is fuel pump relay other is main relay switched on with ignition ,both need to work and are 30 amp relays

I would check ignition first. The fuel pump works by priming when you turn ignition on, then switching off until the fuel flow starts when you crank the engine, so unless your engine is turning over the fuel pump is off, which may lead you to think it is faulty.
