V8 coolant flow diagram/schematic

Morning all, does anyone have, or can anyone point me at a schematic diagram for the water flow on the Rover V8 3500 (carbs) please?

I may be being a complete numpty here but in the face of a not-very-warm heater (no real surprises there!) on my 90, fitted with a 3500 V8, I decided to flush the matrix out (done OK) and then bleed the matrix. I thought I'd worked out which way the water would flow, so I left one hose disconnected and fired her up, only to have water coming out of the hose rather than the heater. No problem thinks I, I got it wrong, let's try the other way round. Same thing! Water coming out of the hose and not out of the heater. In other words, water is being pumped into both sides of the heater matrix. No wonder it's only lukewarm!

I do know that this Landie has been rather "mucked about with" before I bought it in Feb. Currently the heater hoses are connected as follows: one onto the metal pipe which runs under the inlet manifold and tees into the rubber hose on the water pump outlet, and the other goes into the back of the manifold itself. The water connection on the front of the inlet manifold has been plugged with a short stub of hose and a plug in the end - not sure where that should be going to?

So if anyone can let me have sight of a diagram, I can put it all right again! Thanks.

sounds about right though there are a few variations ,it works on flow and if you remove any pipe coolant will want to pour out once system including matrix are full it should flow round

I haven't got a 3500 engine cooling drawing, but generally the flow comes out of the top of the engine through the inlet manifold, to the heater core and then back down to the inlet of the water pump.

It sounds rather as though your matrix is clogged up. The pressure will find the easiest way out, even if it is against the flow of the system.

Thanks for the replies. I did flush the matrix out earlier, lots of clean water coming out and no muck. From what you've both said, the plumbing does seem to be right, or close. I'll have another go at bleeding the matrix and see how we go from there. Thanks again.
