Hi all,

I converted my RR into a 3.5 v8 carb.Used to be 3.9i.
Problem is that I have not a found a fuel pump that runs the carb engine properly.
Last one I tried is the PRC3901 which is normally the one working with carbs. It died after 10 minutes. The pump was from Britpart and I had tried another one from the same brand before, the 8318 (EFI) and it stopped working after a very short time.
Has someone already experienced that kind of issue. Is Britpart really crap? Would a facet pump work better?

yes they are super crap and should be avoided at all costs!

I got a facet style pump from bearmach for my 72 with su's and its been fine. it was only £20 too from lr direct. they have gone up by a fiver now but go to lrdirect and put in PRC3901 , there are lots but the cheapest bm is the one I got!

facet...or similar...see burton power website,they list..(ilford london(essex really))

Ok, thanks for your help. Britpart fuel pumps should definitely be avoided.

I found a used one yesterday that seems to work fine. The engine works better than ever when it's on the run. However, it suddenly stops when idling at times and does not restart right away. It especially happens at traffic lights. The oil light comes on at idle too. Also, the water comes down very quickly since I changed the engine. Guess it still needs a few more adjustments before I can take it off-road...

Hard to tell how old is the engine. I bought it second hand and all I know it is from a LR 110.It is probably very old but I wanted to give it a try as the injection one was becoming a real headache. I got it for cheap as I live in Africa and people run away from V8 engines and put a diesel ones instead. It is at the mechanic right now, so we'll see...

if it doesnt have the dangley bit on the bottom of the dizzy gear its a pre 1976 engine like mine. not sure if they had 110 v8 then though but I am guessing you guys recycle a lot over there though so it could be from anywhere :D

if you do have an oil pressure problem at hot tickover you could check the relief spring and plunger. I fitted high vol oil pump gears to mine and a new plunger as the old one was sticking/scored. the high vol gears are only available for the pre 76 engine which is why I asked lol.

They do recycle a lot over here!It is actually fascinating...Couldnt really figure out what you asked me to look at.Was looking at yours, they are very similar except for the carburetors as I am still using the Solex/Zenith/Stromberg ones. How much did you get the su's for? What kind of plugs are you using?

Thanks you so much for your help!

well if its the pre 76 engine its NGK BP5ES and if its post sd1 then its NGK BP6ES, not a lot of people know that becuase a mechanic brought me8 of the wrong plugs once

I paid £275 with no exchange for the carbs (it would have been £225 if I sent my old ones in) I am having trouble atm with a carb float sticking on one of them so it will be sent back to be fixed under warrenty.
