have just acquired a rather tasty 3.9 ES auto with gas conversion which i think is just perfect. However the boss thinks we should dieselize it so on that basis I've got a of 300tdis (manual gearboxes) laid about so is it possible to put one of these engines on to the autobox or is it just not worth it???

Possible yes, practical? - probably not. if the running costs are an issue, then look at ways of reducing them, maybe.

it wouldn't be my choice TBH - if you have the V8, keep it - they are very very quiet compared to the TDi, and soo much more oomph - even than a tuned souped up Diesel.

bit rambly that, but you get the idea ( too many painkillers today ).

yeah, thanks for that. Personally I love it with the V8 and reckon it gets equivalent of about 28mpg on gas so I'm happy. Just need someone to confirm to the boss that dieselization aint the way to go:D

Someone else will be along to rubbish me shortly, but there are ways of getting much better mpg out of the 300TDi.... I would have a very good google about to see what you can find about increasing MPG on gas converted stuff...

try and think outside the box a bit - like new cams etc..... re-maps and anything else you can think of..

Can't see it being worth the time and effort to save nothing on running costs.

LPG does like high compression though

A diesel engine auto box is different from the petrol engine one, (power/revs, change points etc etc), if u wish to keep to auto, you will need a Tdi auto box.

Other than its all be done before, swapping diesel for petrol and petrol for diesel so loads of info out there somewhere

What line of business is your boss into, demolition? If the V8LPG is perfect as you say, you surely have the best option overall - including the V8 roar and response.

57.9p per litre filling up the other day, regardless of what the MPG on Petrol conversion is just that puts a smile on your face alone as diesel is now back up to 125p per litre, stinks, chucks out more pollutants not least the damaging particulates harmful to kids in particular and sounds awful.

If he's that keen on changing something on the Disco for the sake of it with no good reason revealed or otherwise seemingly obvious, why not start with something less taxing like new windscreen wipers or something..

As for the 300TDI laying about the yard, if its in the way why not fleabay it and fill up a few times on the proceeds.

Just sayin'..

keep the v8 surely 28mpg is similar to a 300 tdi?

I have a v8 mine does 17-20 on petrol no lpg!

A stock ( untuned ) TDi Auto should be doing about that, IME, some a bit more, some a bit less. Tuned and driven carefully, they do a lot more:D

In this situation I would stay LPG

I was open with my D2, I would have bought a TD5, a decent LPG conversion or a cheap unconverted with enough for the kit.

Ended up with TD5
