hi,i have just bought a 52 plate l322 4.4 v8,it has an issue when trying to start,i put on a fully charged battery,it spins over fine(fast)for a few seconds then sort ov mildly backfires a few times then fires up,there are no noises/rattles etc once it fires up,also no codes in ecu,has anyone had this fault and fixed it?i also have a major coolantleak under the inlet manifold(possibly valley gasket or water pump pipes/seals)could this be tied in with fault, thanks andy

Hopefully someone knowledgeable will be along shortly but I wouldn't go anywhere until that coolant leak is fixed.

@Henry_b has played with a few of these engines, I think. @Saint.V8 has played with the BMW lump a lot too.

Thanks for reply,it’s Not in use till I’ve done water leak, just didn’t want to strip top ov engine down twice if it’s owt in that area

The M62 lump is stroon with cheap plastic & rubber pipes that crack and eventually pish all the coolant out.

On the M62 there is a pipe that joins the 2 banks together on the back of the engine, and it's a common leak point.

Also worth while you're there checking all the associated pipes ;)

had it on scanner today and now got codes p1569 cruise control multiplex signal, p0370-timing reference high resolution signal a,this leads to crank sensor which i suspected but not much info on anyone having this problem,i may just bite bullet and fit a sensor to at least eliminate it(havnt priced on yet)

With the P38 mine spun for ages and sometimes fired and sometimes not. Was a pain. Changed crank sensor and is fine now. Awkward to reach but not expensive to buy. Havent a clue about the L322
