Hi Guys,
More a query than a problem I hope! I find myself having to top up an empty header tank every 4-5 days in my V6. Is this normal? Should it really empty that quick, or does it sound like I may have a problem i.e. leak somewhere?

Head gasket / Thermostat housing/ Thermostat pipes / Heater Matrix/Header tank split - that sorta covers most.
I suppose you cant obviously see coolant?
feel under the heater matrix and see if the carpet is wet?
Thermostat is in the middle of the "V" and is a bugger to do (so I am told)
If its HG - good luck.

i like you floppy. . .:) :) :)

I hope it's not a head gasket. From memory when my HG went on the V6 there was clouds of steam coming from the exhaust. So, I reckon the fault is some where else. As Ming suggested, sit the Hippo on a flat area of road and let the engine run a while. Check for water under the engine bay and steam venting from pipes. How many miles do you cover in 4-5 days?

There's only one place I come and it aint in no pub ;)

What pub we going to? Not sure I want to see Mondo strip off to be honest.

Exactly the same problem with mine (Y Reg). Header tank was replaced after garage found cracks but no other leaks after a pressure test and toxicity test (HG). No steam, no smoke. It's running fine...I'll keep my eye on this thread

Good point Marwood. Header tanks do indeed crack and need replacing. Have a look round there.
