Afternoon All,

I am looking to purchase a V6 freelander as and when comes up for sale. I am aware of making sure the cambelts have been changed as there are 3 I believe which seems mental but there go.

Apart from obvious checks is there any other checks I can do when I go to inspect one?

I have had a 1.8 petrol and diesel before but going back to a freelander from a P38 RR and want something a bit different. Thanks.

just the usual check and check again service records for replaced parts and factor a thousand pound bill.

Timing belts are easy to change if you know what you're doing, although it's a long job with the engine in the vehicle, as space is restricted. There are 3 and they need changing at 60 K miles or 6 years IIRC.

Make sure the head gaskets aren't leaking. Also make sure that the coolant is clean, and the oil cap is free of mayonnaise.
Check for coolant leaks in the V. These can cause HG failure, if the coolant drops by more than a litre or so.

Make sure the box has had a fluid change at 60 K intervals too.

The rest is no different to smaller engined Freelander's. So VCU, identical tyres all round with least worn on the rear, IRD noise ECT.
