Hi all, been visiting the site for some time now, excellent source of information and banter, but haven't had cause to post myself as yet, due to finding the answers to any questions I had, already there. I am based in Gweedore, Co. Donegal, Ireland, tho I was born in glasgow. I have a few landrovers here, td5s, 300s and P38. The situation I am in now is this, I was given an 80's? range rover which was left in a shed, and discovered by the new owners of the property, after the previous owner had passed on. a logbook could not be found. It was on N.I. plates, so I contacted the DVA there and they could not trace the vehicle on their database, so they told me to contact the DVLA in Swansea. They sent me instructions on what to do in order to acquire a V5C. The main thing being that it had to be done through an owners club. Is this something that landyzone can do for me, or do you know what club can do it? I did send an email to a range rover club, but got no response at all. Landyzone has all sorts of knowledgeable folk on board, so I thought this may be a better port of call. thanks, kelpie

Hi, thanks for the reply, I believe the reason for the difficulty in getting this sorted is because, the rr is on N.I. plates, tho probably on GB plates originally. Back in the day, before we had the technology we have today, it was not unusual for people to bring a uk car into ireland and use it here for years without ever changing the plates over to irish reg. By doing this, they never paid any excise duties, so it could have been off the register ever since it came into southern Ireland. I do know that after a period of time, if a vehicle is not taxed or tested, or seen to be inactive, it is taken off the active database, but still on record. I have pasted the relevant letter I received from the DVLA,
Upon checking our records I can find no details of the vehicle under the number plate stated.

You will need to apply to an owners club with a V765 form, a V55/5 application, a photograph of the vehicle in its entirety as well as any evidence pre 1983 (e.g. VE60 log book, MOT cert etc) The owners club will validate the application and send it to DVLA.

The VRM will be allocated on a non-transferable basis.

The V765 can be downloaded and printed from the link below:-

Register a vehicle under its original registration number (form V765) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

and the V55/5 can be downloaded and printed from

https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...and-registration-of-a-used-motor-vehicle-v555

You will then receive a V5C document within 4 weeks and you will be able to tax online or at the post office as PLG or historic depending on the vehicles age.

I hope this information will allow you to resolve matters.
