We have a buyer coming to collect the car shortly. Would you give them both parts of V5 or keep the larger piece after they have filled it in and send it off yourself?

Yep thats what you are supposed to do, and send the docs off yourself.
I'd also SORN it too.

I've been known to take to a local tax office, if they still have them, as once I received a 'fine' from DVLA, for failing to tell them I'd sold it ...

Stern letter later reminding them that their representatives in the office were as good as the Secretary of State ....

The reply said that they would waive the matter this time ...

Thanks. He has been and collected it now. I remember when we bought it back in 2007, we part exchanged another car for it. A few weeks later we got speeding notifications in the post. Notified Swansea we no longer had the car and they were fine. I can't remember selling a car before privately.

When I last sold a car, the buyer did the reregistering thing in front of me ON HER PHONE!!!!!!
Couldn't believe it! But as I watched the whole thing I know it wasn't a scam.
Still can't get over it!:eek::eek::eek:

I'm usually the last owner of all my cars so it's less stressful to just scrap em ;)
Me too! I was selling a Mini (old style), Cooper lookalike and go alike, that had stood for a few years, on my drive. Bloke bought it from Gumtree. Was in need of real work. Welding was not the word for what it needed. But they did get a spare engine and gearbox with it.
Could have sold it over and over again, mad! (Went for £1000)
Any other old banger like it would have ended up in the scrapper! It had an MG Metro engine in it and it DID go like sh1t off a polished shovel! When it was going!;););)
