UziSuzi 2.8 engine conversion questions

hello can anyone help i have a 2.8 uzisuzi td engine and i need a conversion kit, does anybody know which company i get them from? also would this engine mate up to my s3 4-speed box or will i have to change it?

I assume it is the Isuzu 2.8TD you plan on fitting - what a great engine that is! Even you insurance company will be happy with that. It will fit the Landy gearbox with the right converter plate, and there is a company that provides the stuff you need, but I'll be damned if I can remember who it is that supplies them. Peter Wright Conversions or something like that. Have a hunt on the net, he is there somewhere. Another good link for Isuzu related stuff is www.itoc.co.uk

If I can find that conversion company I'll let you know.
 
try millnor conversions but i think its changed its name its based at chesterfield he doe's most landy conversion kits
 
Hi Dirk (an all) your choice of engine can only be beaten by a new 300 TDi (which costs 5 times more!) I have a 1987 110 converted to an Isuzu 2.8TD and it goes like a rocket, with torque to pull a ship. Only thing, I have no idea how to calibrate the water temp sender unit to the LR gauge on the dashboard. If any of you has a suggestion I'd be delighted to hear from you, as for the last year I have been driving on the assumption the engine was fine, if any problems would come I'd only see it if steam came off the engine ;).

Dirk Incidentally if you do convert your landie to an isuzu 2.8, given the low(er) torque of the engine, it would work a treat with a 1:1.222 discovery transfer box, with slightly longer gearing in 3rd, 4th and 5th, so you'd return an average 30 / 32MPG on combined fuel consumption

I do get about 30 to 32 MPG depending on use. On average I now do about 450Kms+ with a 40 ltr tank. About 375 / 400Kms when driving with the old 110 transfer box. Not sure if fitting is easy, I had bought the vehicle with the engine in, however this is a fairly popular conversion, that requires a special conversion plate. I was advised the best combination is Isuzu engine + LT85 heavy duty gearbox or r380. As from adding a Disco Transfer box that is subjective to personal use. I use it mostly to carry surfboards and other sports equipment, so i needed more road speed. I am able to cruise at around 65 / 70 mils/hr on long trips. Only additional advice is you should get the cabin properly soundproofed

hi i fitted this engine a few year back to a s3 swb and it was very quick and very cheap to run 30+ mpg a got the kit to fit from percission and conversion for about £250 with a overdrive it could do 115mph (done on a closed airport)

Hi All - incidentally right now on eBay a very nice gentleman has for sale a full working Isuzu TD 2.8 as well as a whole load of ancillaries for £approx450
ISUZU 2.8 TD TROOPER ENGINE 4 DEFENDER 200TDI 300TDI TD on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 14-Nov-08 20:03:38 GMT)

Not sure about the engine supports, mine look the same - I cannot see trace of welding. Not sure if the below quote on speed is right ;) - but I wish my 110 could cruise at 115mph (or was it Km/h - in which case mine is faster at 76mph top speed on the M25 with favourable wind and rocket fuel in the tank, slipstreaming a large truck ha ha! ;)

i had a isuzi 2.8td engine in my 110,and also had the same problem with the temp sender.the way round it is get a land rover one (i used the one out mi old nacked 2.5 na that had come out) and replace the isuzu sender with the land rover one,mine was a close fit but not quite water tight!but all ya need do is get some wellseal non hardening jounting compound and follow the instructions on the packet,put plenty on the threads wind it in untill it nips then bung somemore round the top.leave it to cure but makin sure yuv got contact between the head and sender.mine worked sound and never lost a drop of water.hope this has helped
 
I wander how long a series III gearbox is likely to last with at least 60% more torque going through it? I'd consider using a stronger gearbox, but that would be much more work.

i have thought about doing this conversion with my old series 3, and maybe i might do it on my new 1.
are the mounts the same for a LT77 box and a series 3 box?
In these conversion kits do they sell the conversion engine mounts and stuff like that? or is it just the bell housing conversion plate?

wen i bought my conversion kit the mounts bolted to the old mounts on the chassis,meanin no cuttin or weldin required!piece of pis just bolt the mounts to the engine then lift it in and guide it onto the old mounting points.i got my kit from milners,which is now made by conversion & precision,Conversion & Precision - Quality Engine Fitting Kits is there website.
