Hi sorry for the urgent but need to use disco and no oil in gearbox at mo!
Trying to find out how much to put in. Can't use filler plug as can't open it. Filling from top under gearstick.

I have researched all over and got two figures. 2.3 or 2.8 for refill depending on whether I have oil cooler or not. Trouble is I have no clue! How do I find out so I know how much oil?

TD5 2004 manual

Thanks

It should be obvious if you have an oil cooler, two pipe will run from the gearbox forward to front of engine probably to just below the main Radiator,

Thank you. Unfortunately nothing is obvious to me! First time under a disco properly. On my back in a pool of gearbox fluid with an inch for my head and barley know what a gearbox looks like :D

I found a video where the guy says they were not fitted to Td5 as standard so pretty sure it won't have one

Thanks. I read 2.3 to 2.8. Seems like quite a range! Its being dripping for a good hour or two now so will go with 2.4-2.5 so I can use her as you say. When mate has ramp free she is going in for oil leak repair and service so will get him to do it then and will probably change gearbox fluid again too as it was filthy and this can be a flush!
Thanks

There is no need for any research, just a click on the workshop manual, there is a section with "capacities, fluids and lubricants", simple as that... also it's well known that oil coolers for manuals were not fitted on UK modells, you can download all the dcuments you need from here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/47hbz40an5he5j2/jYpyDK2F0S

Thanks for documents, very useful. Grabbed mine (03MY i think, 2004). Handy to have those.
"it's well known that...." no doubt true, but I didn't know and nor did three 'mechanics' I asked! :)
