hi there i am new to the forum but not new to freelander have been buying and selling freelander for quite some time. this time i am really stuck though i would be able to sort out easily but really really stuck and spent alot to fix problem of viberation on my td4 5dr 2004 . it only happens from 60-70 mph. the gear liver starts shaking the whole car starts viberating on acceleration you can feel it in ur legs and seat.
So far i have change the whole prop shaft new VC new Bearings ALL 4 new tyres rear diff mounts problem still the same.
I really really need ur help as there is no noice or viberation on low speed and full lock forward and reverse is also smoth no noice or effort.
I have manged to buy the new CV joints/drive shaft front but not sure if thats the problem as its also very expensive and want to be sure if thats the exact problem first HOw can i check this problem Please please help

That'll sort it .You could search in the freelander section to find how to check your drive shafts.
It's most likely the os/front inner cv joint.

i took all 4 wheels from my other similar 2004 td4 which was not viberation to check if thats the wheel balancing or some thing to do with wheels. so its been fitted tyres and wheels which are balanced and good thread and which were not viberating on other freelander.

If it is the drive shaft the vehicle will feel like every wheel is going in a different direction and like its going to rattle itself to pieces. My driveshaft felt ok like there weren't much movement, but the inner bearings had completley disinigrated .
Is there evidence of a hole in the gaiter or grease spattered in the engine bay ?

thanks for you reply
when the car was on the ramp i tried to check the drive shaft by miving it there was a little bit of play but not much and the rubber seems ok and no sign or leaks. mine has just done 48k .
there is no banging noise on turning or when you pick from stand still its stays very solod till 4omph.

Welcome to Landyzone.

Do a search in the freelander section.Search vibration or other symptoms.Beware the freelander section is full of **** comments and useless advice from people who would never sit into a gaylander.

I could very well be wrong, but as you have a pair of drive shafts already might be worth changing them.

Hope you get it sorted soon and let us know what fixed the problem.

every one thanks for the reply's

Today i did changed the drive shafts and the viberation is gone but while driving back home from mechanic at 70mph when the car was going fine and i was happy all of sudden very very heavy viberation strted coming with sound and it was so bad that i had to pull over sounded like one of the drive shaft came out . I checked the drive shafts by pulling it with my hands to see any movements but it was rock solid .
started the car again and started driving slowly it was fine . my house was just 2 miles from there so i kept the car under 50mph and brought it home.

Can the new drive shaft be faulty or its some thing else as the viberation was 10 times more severe and i could not even drive the car. .please suggest what could be the problem

it would be worth jacking up a rear wheel putting long bar on wheel nut and trying to turn wheel if its locked you need new viscous coupling if turns stiffly but smoothly its okay,if it where wheel brgs i would expect abs lights to come on
