Holy sh1t #7 rocker arm has snapped!!!
Cheap to get a new one, any ideas whether I could have issues further down the engine or have I been lucky?

I'm guessing I got the valve clearances wrong and as the engines heated up on the way home it went snap, although I did double check 'em.

I ruddy hope there's no nasty consequences, go on someone take me out of my misery!

Even if the pushrods are bent and the rocker is snapped it might be ok, my dads car snapped a couple of rockers and bent a few pushrods when the timing belt snapped, we just replaced them items and it was fine. Do you think the timing belt could have slipped? The whiteish smoke can be a symptom of this cant it? When you reassemble it all you should know when resetting the clearances when you turn the engine by hand.

Oh dear. The gods are not smiling today. I'm sat at the side if a country road awaiting recovery. My 200tdi just cut out and won't fire again! Engine and starter turn but that's it! No tools so gotta wait. Recently running a veg oil mix so suspect filter or sedimentor.

Tbh I haven't looked at the timing belt yet, do we think it could be a likely cause?
Was hoping to get it done in a couple of weeks and drive it in the meantime, once I got a new rocker arm on.
Bad idea??

Bummer, hope you get sorted in the end.
I didn't have all bad news today as the motor sailed through it's mot after hundreds of hours of blood sweat and tears over the last couple of years - so you should be in for some good luck n'orl!

Its probably dodgy solenoid wiring to or on the injector pump, ive had it happen a couple of times.. If it turns unusually fast it could be timing belt, take oil cap off and make sure the stuff underneath is moving when you turn it over.

You hit the nail on the head. AA dude turned up, took oil cap off, no turning of the cams. So, the belt has snapped. I never heard a thing! Damn it

Well it seems that I managed to over tighten pretty much all of the rockers
Got back from the airport this eve to find the parts had arrived whilst I was away so was straight under the bonnet!
Have fitted a new rocker and readjusted all the gaps and the engine was ticking over nicely :)

Should I be concerned that all rocker arms (other than the new one of course) are slightly worn down where they make contact with the stem caps?

again, thanks for the advice.

Not too much. There has to be some wear, hence why they need adjusting, unless it gets too much. Sorry, can't quantify too much .. but mostly it's when you can't get them adjusted properly. ;)

Got a suggestion for you graham, for the rockers that are badly marked, nip them down an extra 'thou' to compensate for the wear.

Thanks tbh that's what I did, the haynes states that the 0.2mm thickness guage should move freely under the rockers so I made sure they grab slightly
