Hello All,

Help! Got the P38 back from service last week and all seemed fine - then this morning we had the plumber round and when he locked his car which was parked behind ours, it set off the Range's alarm!

Really strange as it wouldnt turn off when I depressed the key fob for the Range - I was able to unlock and lock the doors, start the car and even drive it but the alarm just wouldn't go off! It finally stopped after around 5 minutes and then got going again when he unlocked his car as it left.

Thought it was just a strange coincidence but had some friends round this evening and their alarm set it off too!

Never happened before - is just really strange - called the Landrover dealers and they were stumped!

Has this happened to anyone else before? Any thoughts suggestions?

Is there a way to deactivate the alarm temporarily as I am rapidly losing favour with the neighbours!!!

:(

If it's pre 99 then your R.F. receiver is probably the culprit.
In the boot, behind the offside trim you'll find the little bugger.
Disconnect the blue (aerial) wire and see how it goes.
You might have to get a bit closer for your fob to work.

It shouldn't be. They changed the receiver around 99 (I think it was then).

You'll find lots of posts on here about it and it might be worth whipping the trim off (5 minute job) and checking the number on yours in case it's been changed at some time and some tosser has put an old one in.

Even if it's not it might be worth disconnecting the aerial lead just in case you've got a new one but it's having a head-fit.

Hope that's not what's happened!

Have disconnected the RF - its been quiet for 5 minutes now - keeping fingers crossed ... If it doesn't stop is there anything I can do to turn off the alarm? Its driving me nuts! And the pregnant wife has thrown every toy out of the Pram!

By the way, realised that the indicators are not flashing when the alarm goes off ... read on here that alarms are also sometimes triggered when the battery is about to die? Is that likely to be a problem?

What stumps me is the fact that I am able to unlock and lock the car using the remote and also start and drive it whilst the alarm is on!!! :(

Check the battery voltage, check round the BECM for wet carpets. Which wire did you remove from the RF receiver, the blue aerial wire or the connector with 3 wires? It's possible the RF receiver has developed a fault, try disconnecting the connector with 3 wires to it. The alarm can be disabled with Testbook or Faultmate.

I think the alarm sounder might be on fuse 5 under the bonnet. Don't quote me I can't check at the moment but it might give your missus and neighbours a bit of peace.

It won't cure your fault or stop your battery running down.

So ... I eventually had no option but to disconnect the battery last night as it was driving everyone barmy! Luckily I don't appear to have a back-up system.

Reconnected this morning - hoping to get it started to take it to the LR garage and it was fine!!!! The battery disconnection appears to have somehow miracurously solved the issue!!!! How weird?:doh:

Now, I am probably getting over excited but is it possible that the fault causing part just reset itself when the battery was disconnected? Is the gremlin just lying in wait until next weekend when it will pounce again?

:(

Am not going to reconnect the RF receiver just in case - could this be something to do with the Volumetric Sensor?

Do you have any update on this.... My alarm went off last night and I could not switch it off, I had been lying in bed for over half an hour listening to it as I did not realise it was my alarm as it has neve gone off before ( Usually the horn sounds....) when I finally did get up, no lights flashing, so I opened the car started the engine, switched it off, locked the car etc, alarm still sounding....neighbours loved me at 01.10 this morning.....Had to disconnect the battery in the end.

My RF receiver has been disconnected since last year, I had a new battery three weeks ago.......

Any help would be greatly recieved....

Sounds exactly like my problem.

I haven't had any more issues (touch wood). Have you reconnected the batters now? Problem still there?

I suspect its just the BeCM going on a frolic and is somehow connected to a battery being disconnected or changed (mine happened just a week after service when I know the battery was removed).

Reconnected the battery this morning with no issues. I did not even have to re-sync the key....I did have to re-set the windows, sunroof & radio etc..

Hope I don't get it tonight, I will keep a spanner handy.
