Hi Everyone
I am new to this site but in desperate need of some help or general ideas.
My problem is I have a Disco TD5 99 yesterday it started missing and spluttering and chucking balck smoke out, so after looking on here thought it was the fuel injector harness so have replaced this today, cleaned the ECU and put it all back togther and now it wont start, it sounds asthough the fuel pump isnt working as I can normally hear it and it is still chucking out black smoke really lost as to what it is as pre yesterday it was running sweet!!!! Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Dan

yeah looks pretty dark to me smells odd not of fuel if that makes sense!!

Sounds like you're burning oil.

check the oil level on the dipstick. If an injector seal has gone down or the head is cracked it will allow the excess fuel into the sump. The level will rise until you get the big bang theory.

Also check the turbo seals too.

Thanks Del
That one one of the things I had on my list!!!

To be fair, its not a " on the list " type thing with the fuel pump. If its failed thats that !!.

As Ratty said, blake smoke is a sign of overfuelling kinda counting out a lack of fuel from a failed pump.

More info on your problem !.

Not sure if it helps but live up quite a steep hill starting doing it then spluttering and loosing power and sounded like it was running of 4 cylinders and also noticed the smoking, spoke to a local land rover man who thought it was this fuel harness sorry thats about as much as I can say so then cleaned the ECU and it started but then cut out, put the new harness on and now it will only turn and the smoke doesnt appear staright away!!!!
Thanks Guys

first off check the fuel cut off switch in the engine bay wasn't tripped when you were doing the harness. Then turn on the ignition and listen for the fuel pump. If you can hear it and it sounds extra noisey it has air in it. If you can't hear it then try decking the throttle pedal 5 times in quick succession. The fuel pump should start up and run for 3 mins. If it doesn't run, you have a problem. If it runs but sounds noisey, you have air in the system. Repeat the purge process until the pump quietens down.

Then try and start it.

thanks guys not as bad as i thought then hopfully it be a easy fix if not fuel pump could it be the ecu?

When my pump failed the car just ran like a dog, ( like a couple of cylinders down ), and had very little power. I didnt notice any smoke from the rear, but I wasnt really looking.
It happened suddenly. As soon as I couldnt hear the pump running I put a multimeter across the electrical connector to the pump and it showed 12 plus volts. That was enough for me and I changed the pump which sorted the problem.
