look at the coils, the towers are numbered, difficult to see though

I think they've taken the ht leads off the coils and don't know what order they go

so explain to me how yu get 8 leads off of 2 coils then - when yu only got two ht leads?

look at the pic in my other post further up the page, there's two coils and they have four towers on each, it's a wasted spark distrubutorless system

are we talking coils here or coil packs. coils only have 1 ht terminal to feed the distributer whereas coil packs are sort of coil and distributor all rolled into one, i think a clearer explaination is needed

are we talking coils here or coil packs. coils only have 1 ht terminal to feed the distributer whereas coil packs are sort of coil and distributor all rolled into one, i think a clearer explaination is needed
they're coil packs, same ****, different name, the ecu switches them via an earth, the same way a distrubutor would switch a normal coil

oh clutchy you have seriously let me down, i had you down as an ecpert, a coil pack is nothing like a coil except for the fact that it eventually provides a spark. for one a coil is cylindrical and interchangeable with other cars, a coil pack is unique for the vehicle it is fitted to. c'mon clutchy i hold you in higher esteem than that

there's no difference between a coil and a coil pack, yes they look different but they work in EXACTLY the same way as a regular coil, you could even make one work with a conventional distributor if you want, they have 2 or more towers as opposed to one and 2 towers fire at the same time (wasted spark system)
Look at the coils on a freelander 1.8, they're double ended but both fire at the same time, its just one coil with 2 or more outlets.

so if they have four towers on each then the ht leads come direct off there to the plugs thus eraddicating the need for a distributor

yes, the leads come off the coils, straight to the plugs, they are triggered by the ecu instead of a distributor, they are triggered the same way a distributor triggers a conventional coil, i.e remove the earth to collapse the magnetic field and generate HT voltage.
The ecu determines engine position via the crank and cam sensors and can therefore adjust ignition timing depending on load, speed etc
