Hi fellow landrover nutbags :D

I have a question about intercoolers and snorkals. I am building a 110 200 tdi defender overland machine and i was toying with the idea of fitting a uprated intercooler like a alisport one BUT... i also wanted to fit a snorkal do to the fact that i will be traveling overland in alot of dusty conditions, a friend of mine has told my that fitting a snorkal will take away the exrta power given by the intercooler. Can anyone shed any light on this matter

Cheers Adam

Dunno if I'm on the right track here but I reckon that wot the mate of Big Ad means is that any advantage of fitting a bigger inter cooler would be cancelled out by fitting a snorkle. Cos fitting a bigger inter cooler means colder denser air therefore more of it, and a snorkle means longer air intake tract therefore more friction on the air going down it so less air going into the inter cooler.

Hope this helps,
Stephen.

Some can restrict the flow slightly, but on the "Safari" type, you can actually get a ram air effect due to its shape, and force more air in.

If a snorkel reduces air-flow slightly, ( and I do mean if; don't forget there's a turbo sucking it in ), then a decent intercooler will more than make up for it. Go for it.
