I am in the process of replacing my cylinder head. I have noticed that the upper inlet manifold gaske tis made of metal and there is not a replacement in the gasket set supplied. there appears to be sealant on the old gasket, do I just need to apply some sealant or does the gasket go on dry?

Cheers

Chris

do you mean valley gasket ,you will need new one plus the 2 seals either end, worth putting a little sealant both ends wre seals join head and around coolant openings either end seals err7282 gasket err7306,if you mean ram pipe housing to manifold and plenum to that then a little sealant is all thats used.needed

For what they cost, plus good practice, never re-use old gaskets unless it's a no-option situation or emergency fix.
The V8's and other LR's are notorious for leaks and new gaskets are essential when rebuilding and are one of the few inexpensive parts to buy.

It will be the ram pipe housing to plenum......I bought what I thought was a complete gasket, head bolt kit, this appears to be the only gasket not in there....

Thanks both.

Thanks for the input all...

There is a metal gasket between the upper and lower manifolds, I just re-used it with a little sealant either side.

Anyway thanks for the heads up on the sealant on the valley gasket, luckily I had not gone too far , so I just took it all back off and applied a bit of sealant as suggested.....

So far, so good....
