Hi I have a 2002 discovery petrol money pit. It is currently up the back hill on my property. it has oil, but the oil light is on and top end is noisy. Oil pump failure I think. Can it be driven about 300M at idle speed back down ( I need to go up 50M first & then navagate the fruit trees) can't just roll. Also where is the oil pump and is it easy to replace.?? thanks

If you haven't got ANY oil pressure then you stand to risk damaging bearings if you run the engine in an already dry condition.

If you have to run it to move it, then you haven't got a lot of options.

The oil pump on the V8 is part of the timing cover, and it is driven by the crankshaft, the rotor is sandwiched between the timing gear and the crankshaft pulley.

You'll need to take the sump away, remove the suction pipe which is fitted into the timing cover, crankshaft pulley, water pump etc etc.

You'll need new sump gasket, timing cover seal and gasket, O-ring for the suction tube and water pump gasket.

Rover only sell the timing cover as an assembly for about £400, but the rotor sets are on ebay for about £45 or so.

Make sure you grease the rotor well on assembly, they take a long time to pick up oil after they have been stripped and rebuilt.
