unusual noise near rear wheel

My son has a 2002 TD5 and recently noticed a noise like air releasing near the driver's side rear wheel. It happens when the ignition is turned on and lasts about 30 seconds then stops. Could it be the suspension or air bags doing some sort of set up procedure?
