The other week I hered a loud noise from the rear of my disco which sounded like a spring breaking. I had a look round and the car was leaning to one side at the rear so I assumed it was a spring and gingerly drove home. The car rolled realy badly on left turns but was fine on right turns and felt as if something was holding it back, almost felt like I was towing a couple of tonnes.

I have just fitted two new springs even though the old ones looked fine when I got them off and the car is still the same.

Any ideas?

Cheers

damper failure possibly if your sure nothing is visibly broken

Whereabouts are you? To be honest, if you took 2 good springs off, why did you replace them, and not just put 'em back on again? I'd suggest that you get someone who has an idea what they're looking at to check the back end, it could be many things .. spring mount bust, shock bust, ARB flipped/broken, a few possibilities ...

I don't have an anti roll bar on the back and its been fine without it since I got it.

As my palls disco is on my big axle stands and the little fold up ones I have are not big enough I was just using a trolley jack so I didn't want to crawl around underneath with a pry bar and I could only do one side at a time, so as I couldn't be sure the spring hadn't slumped without the other one to compare it to I just changed them both.

The springs were not standard so did not match the new ones.

I have another car as my daily drive so it will just have to wait till my pals disco is done and I can get under for a propped look. I just thought there might be a common fault that you guys would know about.

Cheers guys

theres not a lot of choice with 300 tdi springs ive never seen a lr part no for h/d spring, roll bars are removed

The spring kit was STC8937 in the early days of discos but no doubt has been superseded or even no longer available from LR, therefore obtained if required as an aftermarket item.

According to my LR bible (parts book) vehicles that have heavy duty rear springs fitted, must have front anti roll bar fitted, and rear anitroll bar removed.
